Gallery 2424 Show “It’s A Small World” is Raising Money to Help Asheville Artists

Longtime Asheville resident turned Savannah creative Maxx Feist has put together an eclectic exhibition with a goal of providing for those who have lost their livelihoods

With their frequent appearances at exhibition spaces around Savannah, it’s easy to forget that Maxx Feist only moved to Savannah in 2021, having previously spent the better part of 20 years in Asheville, North Carolina. It’s that previous stop which motivated them to put together “It’s A Small World,” a group art exhibition/fundraiser benefitting Asheville artists impacted by Hurricane Helen, opening Friday, December 13th at Gallery 2424.

“My first reaction was…I was totally traumatized, and it was unbelievable, and I couldn’t comprehend what I was seeing,” said Feist when asked what they thought when they first started seeing images of the devastation caused by the September storm. “Because I knew exactly where those places were.”

Months later, the artists of Asheville, many of whom, Feist related, have lost their studios, much of their income, and years of work, are still struggling to survive. A GoFundMe has been put together to get resources into the hands of artists to help them “make it through the winter,” said Feist, and one hundred precent of the proceeds from “It’s A Small World” will be added to that effort.

“We’re artists,” they added. “Let’s help artists.”
